Tomas von Rettig elected Chairman of the Board of Rettig Group – Matts Rosenberg appointed CEO
A transition of generations is taking place at Rettig Group as the current Chairman of the Board Cyril von Rettig (b. 1954) steps down and Tomas von Rettig (b. 1980) replaces him as the company’s next Chairman of the Board. The decision to hand over Rettig Group from the 8th generation to the 9th generation of the Rettig family was made in the annual general meeting of Rettig Capital, the parent company of Rettig Group, on 26 February 2019. Consequently, Rettig Group’s Board appointed Matts Rosenberg (b. 1977) as CEO of Rettig Group, effective 1 March 2019.
Cyril von Rettig:
“My career in this company began in 1972 as an 18-year-old trainee, and in 1988, I joined the Board along with my sister Ann and my brothers Tom and Hans. Now forty-six years later, it is time for me to say thank you and hand over the baton to the next generation. As the Chairman I have closely followed the younger generation’s ambitious and professional manner of leading the company for several years, and I can’t be anything else than very proud of them and happy to leave our family business in their skilled hands.”
Tomas von Rettig (BBA and CEFA) has been Rettig Group’s President and CEO since January 2016 and a member of Rettig Group’s Board of Directors since 2015. He holds several board positions in Rettig Group’s portfolio companies, including Rettig ICC (Chairman) and Terveystalo (Vice Chairman). Tomas has worked at Rettig Group since 2008 in several different positions.
Tomas von Rettig:
”The changes announced today mark the end of a carefully planned succession plan that was started some ten years ago. During my father’s tenure, which spanned over four decades, Rettig Group has expanded internationally, and through our portfolio companies we are today present in about 30 countries with global sales. I am honoured to follow in my father’s footsteps as Chairman of Rettig Group. Matts Rosenberg, with his experience and track record, is the obvious choice as my successor as CEO and I look forward to working together with Matts in developing Rettig Group forward.”
Matts Rosenberg (Ph.D. (Econ.), Finance) joined Rettig Group in 2016 as Chief Operating Officer and was appointed Deputy CEO, Head of Core Investments in 2018. Matts is Chairman of the Board of Nordkalk and a board member in Rettig ICC, both portfolio companies of Rettig Group. He has over 15 years of experience from working with investments, M&A and in operational roles. Prior to joining Rettig Group Matts worked for IK Investment Partners (formerly Industri Kapital) in Sweden, and as Deputy CEO & CFO of Fortaco Group.
”I am excited to start in this new role and have deep respect for the responsibility it entails. My main objective is to develop Rettig Group in accordance with our new strategy, which sets out to create long-term value through active and responsible ownership. Our target is to be a highly professional and respected family-owned investment company with a Nordic focus, owning and developing best-in-class companies. We have strong capabilities to execute our strategy: a highly skilled team, a strong brand, and last but not least, an ownership base with a clear vision of the long-term objectives for Rettig Group.”
Other changes in the Board and in the management team
In conjunction with these changes Tom von Rettig and Bjarne Mitts will step down as members of the Board of Rettig Group. Maria Savola, Matti Kuivalainen and Timo Vättö will continue as members of the Board. As Chairman of the Board, Tomas von Rettig will no longer be a member of the management team of Rettig Group.
Rettig Group will publish its 2018 financial result tomorrow on 28 February 2019 at 9.00 and arrange a press conference at 11.00 in which both Tomas and Matts are available for questions. The press conference is held at Rettig Group headquarters (Bulevardi 46, Helsinki).
